Evacuated Horses Find Shelter at Pierce College Equestrian Center

During the Franklin Fire in December, the Pierce College Equestrian Center in Woodland Hills accepted over 50 horses from Malibu residents, with the capacity to house up to 200 horses. They also took in other animals such as miniature cows, goats, pigs, and chickens. The center is open 24/7 and always willing to assist in emergencies.

Big Heart Ranch, a farm animal rescue and sanctuary, preemptively evacuated 45 large animals before the fire reached their property. They moved animals such as draft horses, donkeys, and smaller animals to safer locations to prevent smoke inhalation or getting lost. The ranch is open to receiving animals for temporary housing in emergencies and is in need of trailers, crates, blankets, volunteers, and donations.

Volunteers like Erin Wu from Big Heart Ranch worked tirelessly to relocate animals to safety during the Franklin Fire. Wu specializes in bunny and guinea pig rescues and drove smaller animals to BunnyLuv Rabbit Resource Center in North Hollywood for evacuation. The ranch is open to future collaborations with Malibu residents for animal housing during emergencies and is seeking more volunteers and donations.
