Countryfile presenter Adam Henson provided an update on his farm’s livestock following a challenging drought last year that severely impacted his sheep. To improve resilience and reduce environmental impact, Adam introduced two new breeds of rams—Romneys, known for requiring fewer worming treatments, and Hampshire Downs, focused on meat production and able to thrive on natural pasture without commercial feed. Despite last year’s difficulties, including feeding lambs hard food due to poor grass growth, Adam and his livestock manager Sam are optimistic about this year’s lambs, noting significant growth and health improvements.
In addition to the sheep update, Adam welcomed a new foal to his farm—a rare Suffolk Punch pony named Hera. He highlighted the importance of healthy foals to preserving the breed and described the strong bond between Hera and her mother. Adam expressed excitement about Hera’s future, calling her a potential “superstar” and emphasizing the ongoing care needed to help her settle and grow. Countryfile airs Sundays on BBC Two and iPlayer.
