Tributes Paid to John Fleming, Respected Irish Racing Figure and Publisher, After Tragic Death

John Fleming, a respected figure in Irish horse racing known for his roles as a racehorse owner, bloodstock expert, and long-time publisher of the Irish Racing Yearbook, tragically died after being struck by a bus near Dublin Airport. Fleming, 62, was deeply involved in the racing community, owning horses with trainers Joe Murphy and Michael O’Callaghan, including the notable Cercene and Navassa Island. Beyond racing, he ran an accountancy firm specializing in services for the industry, offering invaluable financial advice and support to trainers and smaller operations.

Tributes from trainers, colleagues, and industry leaders highlight Fleming’s kindness, generosity, and dedication to the sport. Joe Murphy described him as a problem-solver and a great friend who always made time to help others, while Daragh O’Conchuir and Horse Racing Ireland CEO Suzanne Eade praised his passion, professionalism, and lasting impact on the racing community. Fleming is survived by his wife Marian, children, and extended family, with funeral services scheduled in Kilkenny.
