The 100th anniversary season of Tampa Bay Downs concluded successfully, marked by a 10.6% increase in daily attendance and a 1% rise in total handle, despite flat on-track wagering. Purses were raised by 3.10%, benefiting horsemen and horsewomen, with Florida-bred horses competing for an additional $1 million in purse money, bringing the total extra funds for Florida-registered horses to over $2 million. Key figures included owner-trainer Juan Arriagada, trainers Kathleen O’Connell and Juan Carlos Avila, and jockey Samuel Marin, who set a new single-season win record with 154 victories.
Marin, a 25-year-old Venezuelan jockey, dominated the meet and will move to Delaware Park along with leading apprentice rider Cesar Gonzalez. The standout horse was Long Gone Sally, a Florida-bred filly who won six of eight starts. Tampa Bay Downs will reopen for its 101st season on November 25, 2026, continuing its legacy since opening in 1926.
