Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo will not compete in the upcoming Preakness Stakes, trainer Cherie DeVaux announced, ending hopes for a 2026 Triple Crown bid. Golden Tempo, who made history by giving DeVaux the first female trainer victory at Churchill Downs, will instead rest after his impressive Derby win and aim for the Belmont Stakes on June 6.
DeVaux emphasized that the decision prioritizes Golden Tempo’s health and long-term well-being, despite the excitement surrounding a potential Triple Crown run. Notably, this year both the Preakness and Belmont races will be held at alternate venues due to renovations, with the Preakness at Laurel Park and the Belmont at Saratoga.
