Stolen Peacocks Rescued and Returned After Alberta Truck Theft

A pair of peacocks named Pete and Hilda were stolen along with a pickup truck and a livestock trailer carrying a horse and donkey from a roadside hotel in Stony Plain, Alberta. While the larger animals were found abandoned nearby within hours, the peacocks remained missing for days until they were discovered in a roadside ditch near Duffield by a family who recognized them from police notices. The birds, though shaken, were safely returned to their owner, Dawn Condon, who was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude.

The peacocks had been en route to Prince George, B.C., to help protect a flock of chickens and guinea fowl on Condon’s farm. The theft has left the family distressed, especially as Condon has been struggling with illness in the family. RCMP continue to investigate the theft, seeking the stolen white 2005 Ford F350 truck and the perpetrator, while expressing thanks to those who helped recover the birds. The family hopes to press charges and recover the truck, emphasizing the emotional and practical impact of the crime on both the animals and their caretakers.
