Drought Causes Multiple Animal Rescues from Thick Mud in Lake County, Florida

In Lake County, Florida, a bull, horse, goat, and sheep were all rescued from thick mud caused by drought-dried ponds. Earlier this month, a goat and sheep were pulled from mud in Groveland, and more recently, the Lake County Fire and Rescue, with assistance from Sumter County Special Operations, helped free a horse and bull. These incidents are linked to the ongoing drought, which has dried up water sources, leaving behind hazardous mud that animals can get trapped in.

While such rescues are rare in neighboring Sumter County, Lake County has seen four similar incidents within a month. Despite recent rains potentially increasing muddy conditions, officials advise residents to stay alert but do not expect the situation to worsen significantly. The drought’s impact on local ponds continues to pose risks for animals in the area.
