On April 4, the SaddleBrooke Gadabout group visited Jumping Jack Ranch, home to Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating neglected, abused, abandoned, or slaughter-bound equines. Founded in 2004 by Karen Pomroy to address the mistreatment of mares used in hormone production, the sanctuary now cares for about 65 horses, donkeys, and other equines, many of whom require lifelong care due to age, medical issues, or trauma. The visit included tours of the ranch and insights into the animals’ recovery, highlighting the sanctuary’s commitment to both physical and emotional rehabilitation.
Equine Voices operates primarily through donations to cover expenses like feed and veterinary care, emphasizing the importance of community support. The sanctuary’s calm environment and the progress of once fearful animals underscore the impact of consistent, compassionate care. The visit provided the group with education on the challenges facing unwanted equines and the vital role of rescue organizations. Those interested in supporting or learning more can visit their website or contact the sanctuary directly.
