Rescued Kentucky Racehorse Make It Kate Faces Long Road to Recovery After Abandonment

Make It Kate, a highly decorated 17-year-old standardbred mare with a successful racing career earning over $100,000 and more than 200 races, was found abandoned and emaciated on a remote mountaintop in Eastern Kentucky. Rescued by the Kentucky Humane Society during a welfare check, Kate was suffering from severe neglect, including rain rot, eye diseases, and malnutrition. Her last registered owner had passed away years ago, and her care history remains unclear.

Now under the care of the Humane Society at Willow Hope Farm, Kate faces a challenging recovery but is described as ready to receive kindness again. The organization is seeking donations to support her rehabilitation, with a matching gift offer up to $10,000 to help ensure horses like Kate do not endure abandonment alone.
