Devon and Cornwall Police are recruiting volunteers with horses to help combat rising rural crimes such as flytipping, livestock theft, and anti-social behavior. These volunteers will support the police by engaging with local residents, conducting patrols, and reporting suspected agricultural, equine, wildlife, or heritage crimes that disproportionately affect rural communities. The initiative aims to provide a visible deterrent to crime while strengthening police connections with rural areas.
Volunteers must be over 21, have at least five years of riding experience, own a suitable horse, and pass police vetting. They will receive training in first aid, de-escalation, and other relevant courses from the College of Policing. The program encourages community involvement in monitoring and reporting rural crime, helping to address the increasing challenges faced by these areas.
