A fundraiser organized by “Newtown Gives Back” will be held on May 9 at Countryside Gallery in Newtown to support the Knight family’s efforts to legally adopt three Ukrainian children. The children, aged 16, 15, and 8, lost their parents in 2020 before the war began, and are related to Jean Knight’s wife. After the war disrupted their initial adoption plans, the Knight family used savings to bring the children and their grandfather to safety, eventually gaining full custody through Bucks County courts.
However, the children currently lack legal residency status in the U.S. due to the way their immigration was facilitated. The Knight family now seeks financial assistance to cover the costs of legal fees, home studies, and immigration processes necessary to finalize the adoption and secure the children’s legal status. The fundraiser will feature food, wine, and artwork by Ukrainian artist Basia Andrusko to help raise these funds.
