In Norman, Oklahoma, firefighters and additional rescue personnel successfully freed a 20-year-old horse trapped in mud at the bottom of a steep pond for two hours. The rescue involved coordination between Norman fire crews, Norman Animal Welfare, the horse’s owner, and the use of a large front-end loader. During the operation, the horse was extremely exhausted, prompting discussions with an on-site veterinarian about euthanasia, which distressed the family.
Fortunately, the combined efforts of all responders led to the horse being able to walk into a horse trailer and transported safely to a veterinary clinic, resulting in a positive outcome. The incident highlights the dedication of local emergency services and animal welfare groups in handling challenging animal rescues.
