A newborn foal named Biggles was found abandoned and in critical condition in a County Durham field, less than 24 hours old with his umbilical cord still attached. Rescued by the charity Here4Horses and given emergency care at Clevedale Veterinary Practice, Biggles was severely dehydrated and weak, requiring round-the-clock intensive treatment including intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and bottle feeding. Thanks to the dedication of vets and volunteers, especially trustee Wendy Suddes, Biggles made a remarkable recovery and is now preparing to celebrate his first birthday.
The collaborative effort between Here4Horses, Clevedale Vets, and public support was crucial to Biggles’ survival. Veterinary surgeon Alistair Love praised the team’s commitment and highlighted ongoing care and fundraising efforts, including his participation in the Great North Run to support the charity. Here4Horses currently cares for around 30 horses and ponies and relies heavily on donations to continue rescuing and rehabilitating neglected animals like Biggles.
