Mary Haskins Gray: From Equestrienne to Key Witness in the Hawthorne Hill Shooting Case

Mary Haskins Gray, an accomplished equestrienne and dressage trainer, was a key witness in the 2019 incident at Hawthorne Hill farm in New Jersey involving Michael Barisone and Lauren Kanarek. Present during the shooting, Mary testified in Barisone’s defense during the 2022 trial, describing a tense and toxic environment at the farm, alleging false reports by Kanarek, and recounting Barisone’s actions before the shooting. Her testimony was also featured in Netflix’s documentary “Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill.”

Beyond the incident, Mary has built a successful career in dressage, running her own clinic and collaborating with major equestrian brands. She continues to train riders and horses at the Grand Prix level. On a personal note, Mary remarried in 2022 to Dakota McLeod, with whom she has a daughter, Eloise, and together they raise her two children in a supportive family environment, finding fulfillment both professionally and personally.
