British Team Finishes Second at Inaugural Fontainebleau FEI Dressage Nations Cup

At the inaugural Fontainebleau CDIO5* (16–19 April), a strong British dressage team secured second place in the opening European leg of the FEI dressage Nations Cup, narrowly behind Germany. The competition was fiercely contested, with lead changes between Germany, Britain, and Belgium until the final rides. British rider Lottie Fry delivered a standout performance on Glamourdale, achieving a personal best and finishing second individually. Carl Hester also impressed with his 16-year-old stallion Fame, earning fifth place in the grand prix and second in the grand prix special, highlighting the horse’s continued excellence under a lighter competition schedule.

The event served as a key early-season test ahead of the World Championships in Aachen, showcasing top international talent. Fiona Bigwood’s home-bred mare Donna Bella also shone, finishing third in the grand prix special, demonstrating promising potential rooted in a strong family legacy. Carl Hester praised the quality of the field and the performances, emphasizing the importance of giving younger riders opportunities while also stepping up when needed. Overall, the competition underscored Britain’s strong form and depth in dressage as the season progresses.
