The CEO of Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Brentwood has publicly addressed and condemned the “insulting” and unfounded online criticism directed at their care of animals recently taken in from Jodie Marsh’s Fripps Farm, which was damaged by fire earlier this year. Despite providing safe, structured care for a Highland cow, horses, and ponies, the sanctuary’s staff have faced harassment, threats, and accusations questioning their expertise and the conditions provided. CEO Dave Schlaich emphasized the sanctuary’s 43 years of experience, transparency, and dedication, highlighting the emotional toll such negativity has on their committed team.
Schlaich also noted that the backlash has discouraged other animal welfare groups from assisting with future rehoming from Fripps Farm, undermining the welfare of animals in need. He urged the public to base opinions on facts rather than assumptions from limited images and welcomed genuine concerns to be raised directly with him. The sanctuary remains focused on animal welfare and appreciates the support from those who understand their efforts amid the controversy.
