Izzi Velinsky’s lifelong passion for horses, sparked in childhood, evolved significantly during her time at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Initially aiming for veterinary medicine, her involvement with Nebraska’s Equestrian Team and mentorship from the former coach shifted her focus toward horse training and animal science. Through dedication, she developed riding skills, competed nationally, and gained practical experience in horse care and competition operations. Her participation in the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program also taught her the business aspects of horse ownership and training.
Velinsky’s hands-on internships with Oklahoma horse trainer Todd Crawford led to a full-time assistant trainer position after graduation. She credits her education, team experiences, and mentorship for building her skills, confidence, and industry connections. While uncertain about her long-term career path, Velinsky feels her college journey and equestrian opportunities have given her purpose and a strong foundation to pursue her passion professionally.
