First Foals of 2022 Kentucky Derby Winner Rich Strike Born in New York

The first foals sired by 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike were born on April 27 in New York. One is a filly out of Dee Dee B, a winning Kitten’s Joy mare bred by Rich Strike’s trainer Eric Reed and his wife. Dee Dee B, who ended her racing career with three straight wins, was claimed by Reed in 2024. The filly was born at Irish Hill Century Farm, where Rich Strike stands as a stallion. The other foal is a colt out of Orma, a winning daughter of Posse, bred by Daniel Charles Snyder. Orma descends from notable New York stakes winners.

Rich Strike, a 7-year-old son of Keen Ice and out of Canadian champion Gold Strike, stands at stud for $6,500. His syndicate includes Kentucky owners and newcomers to New York breeding, who have actively acquired mares to breed to him in the state. The birth of these foals marks the beginning of Rich Strike’s impact as a sire in the New York breeding industry.
