The ASPCA’s disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Helene in the Southeast were made possible by generous supporters, including The Rachael Ray Foundation and The Silberstein Foundation. Over 30 days, the ASPCA provided relief to shelters, pets, and pet owners, reuniting pets with their owners and finding placement for displaced animals. The ASPCA distributed over 389,900 pounds of pet food and cat litter, provided care to over 150 animals through emergency shelters, and impacted more than 25,000 animals through various response efforts.
The ASPCA operated an emergency shelter in Conover, North Carolina, to care for displaced animals and reunite missing pets with their families. They also provided veterinary care and transported animals to placement partners outside the impact zone. The ASPCA continues to provide support through free primary pet care clinics, temporary boarding for displaced pets, and pet food distribution in Western North Carolina. The ASPCA’s disaster response team remains active in the region, coordinating with local agencies to provide critical support to impacted communities.
The ASPCA assisted in the emergency transport of homeless animals from shelters impacted by Hurricane Helene, providing medical and behavioral care until they are available for adoption. The ASPCA’s disaster response team is working with local agencies to establish pet supply distribution plans and provide support to communities impacted by the disaster. The ASPCA continues to assess needs in affected communities and stands ready to assist in further disaster relief efforts.
