The annual State 4-H Horse Judging Contest held on May 3, 2026, provided youth participants an opportunity to showcase their knowledge of horse anatomy, breeds, movement, and their skills in evaluation, reasoning, and oral presentation. Competitors were divided into junior and senior age groups, with winners recognized in various categories including classes, oral reasons, and overall performance. Notable winners included Avery Halvorsen and Grace Peterson in the junior divisions, and Jocelyn Renaud and Viola Brown among seniors.
The event was organized by Mary Fay and Wendy Sorrell, with judging by Deb Danforth and Jessie Bachmann-Lertola, and support from several volunteers and Wishful Thinking Farm for horse handling. Vermont 4-H encourages those interested in livestock programs to reach out to local educators or contact Wendy Sorrell for more information.
