Youth Ages 9 to 18 Invited to Learn Wild Horse Health and Management at UC Range and Mustang Camp

The University of California Cooperative Extension and Utah State University are hosting a Range and Mustang Camp for youth ages 9 to 18 from August 6-8, 2026, in Modoc National Forest, California. This 4-H summer camp, funded by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, offers hands-on learning about wild horse and burro management, rangeland habitats, and natural resource careers such as forestry and hydrology. The camp features two age-specific curricula (11-13 and 14-18) and includes activities like visiting a Wild Horse Facility and traditional camp experiences such as swimming and canoeing.

Limited to 25 participants, the camp costs $125, covering meals, lodging in bunkhouses, and 4-H registration for non-members. The program aims to engage youth in outdoor education to foster interest in natural resource stewardship and wild horse management. Interested individuals can register online by June 1, 2026, and contact Laura Snell for more information.
