Tributes Flow for Hobby Trainer Stephen Meyer After Fatal Scone Accident

Stephen Meyer, a much-loved 71-year-old hobby horse trainer from the Hunter North West district, tragically died after being kicked in the back by a horse at Scone racecourse on Friday. The incident occurred ahead of the final race on the opening day of Scone’s two-day carnival, casting a somber mood over the event. Meyer, known for his integrity, work ethic, and lifelong passion for thoroughbreds, operated out of Tamworth and had notable success with his stable star, Danza In The Dark.

Racing NSW and the racing community expressed deep condolences, highlighting Meyer’s humility and wide respect within the industry. Channel 7’s Emma Freedman described the news as “absolutely horrible,” emphasizing that Meyer will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him. Racing NSW extended its sympathies to Meyer’s family and friends, honoring his enduring love for horses and his significant contributions to the sport.
