Southwest Missouri Couple Expands Animal Rescue Mission into Growing Nonprofit

A couple in Vernon County, Missouri, Ben Cummings and his partner, founded Phoenix Roost Rescue less than a year ago after finding three stranded puppies on their doorstep. What started as a small effort has quickly grown into a full animal rescue operation caring for multiple dogs, cats, a horse, and a pony, with plans to expand further. They emphasize sustainability by using upcycled materials from their own backyard to create safe and comfortable spaces for the animals.

The rescue addresses a significant local issue, as many animals are abandoned in rural areas with little chance of survival. Community members recognize the importance of such efforts to provide care for animals that have nowhere else to go. Due to rapid growth, Phoenix Roost Rescue is working toward becoming an official 501(c) nonprofit organization to better serve the increasing demand for animal rescue services.
