Highly trained rescue teams from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, including the urban search and rescue team and specialist water officers, responded to assist a wandering Shire horse in distress. After the owner alerted them, the horse was sedated by a vet to ensure a safe rescue.
With the owner’s help using a telehandler to create a path, the crews successfully slid the horse out of the water. Following the rescue, the horse was examined by the vet and then returned safely to the care of her owner.
