San Diego Humane Society Rescues Hundreds of Animals from Julian Sanctuary

Hundreds of animals, including over 150 cats and 165 horses and ponies, are being rescued from the Villa Chardonnay animal sanctuary in Julian following an investigation that began in April. After San Diego County Animal Services received reports and obtained legal authority to enter the property, ownership of the animals was transferred to the San Diego Humane Society, which is now leading the complex rescue operation in collaboration with county services and other humane organizations.

The San Diego Humane Society anticipates assisting a wide variety of animals including cats, dogs, donkeys, alpacas, and various birds. Due to the large intake, cat adoptions at their El Cajon Campus have been temporarily paused. The organization is calling on the community for support through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or donations to help provide the necessary care and compassion for the rescued animals.
