Plans have been submitted to develop an indoor horse-riding arena at Wenallt Farm in Rhiwbina, on the outskirts of Cardiff. The facility, proposed by Rockwood Equestrian Limited—a livery business operating for over 40 years with stabling for 25 privately owned horses—aims to provide a covered exercise and training space to better serve the existing customer base. The current outdoor exercise area is limited and cannot be covered due to overhead pylons, restricting riding opportunities and lesson availability, especially in winter.
The proposed indoor arena will be a simple, low-height rectangular structure with an agricultural appearance, designed to blend into the landscape through native tree and scrub planting around the site. This development is considered crucial for the business’s sustainability, enhancing recreational, social, and health benefits for the community while supporting the economic viability of the livery service and its British Horse Society-accredited coaching lessons.
