Nathan Chasing Horse, known for his role in “Dances With Wolves,” was sentenced to life in prison by a Nevada judge for sexually assaulting Indigenous women and girls. Convicted on 13 charges related to assaults on three women, Chasing Horse exploited his position as a spiritual leader and Lakota medicine man to manipulate and abuse victims over nearly two decades. Victims and their families described ongoing trauma and struggles with faith due to his betrayal of trust and sacred traditions. Despite the evidence, Chasing Horse denied the charges and called the verdict a miscarriage of justice.
The sentencing concludes a lengthy legal process in the U.S., while additional charges against Chasing Horse remain pending in Canada, including a sexual assault case in British Columbia and an outstanding warrant in Alberta. Prosecutors in both countries continue to pursue justice as appeals and investigations proceed. Victims expressed hope for healing and reclaiming their lives following the conviction.
