Mufasa Roars to Victory in Mr. Prospector Stakes at Gulfstream Park

Mufasa, a Chilean-bred horse, returned to a seven-furlong sprint and upset 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner White Abarrio in the $150,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Trainer Ignacio Correas IV saw the horse he remembered from previous wins and realized his mistake in trying two turns instead of sprinting.

Mufasa, a son of Practical Joke, returned with a sharp break and found himself in a perfect stalking position outside Super Chow. White Abarrio, the favorite, had a rough start and struggled to make up ground. Mufasa easily established command and won by 1 1/4 lengths.

The victory in the Mr. Prospector Stakes was Mufasa’s third win in five starts since arriving in the United States. He has a record of 11-0-0 from 15 starts and earnings of $339,191. Plans for Mufasa include keeping him sprinting, and he is one of seven North American graded stakes winners by sire Practical Joke in 2024.
