Actor and heavy horse enthusiast Martin Clunes will officially open the new Heavy Horse Village at the Royal Bath and West Show in Shepton Mallet on May 28. The village is part of the inaugural Festival of Heavy Horses, which brings together a variety of the UK’s rare heavy horse breeds for visitors to see, meet, and learn about. Created by Diana McFeat, the festival aims to showcase these gentle giants side by side, allowing the public to experience their impressive presence up close.
The festival features in-hand showing and driven displays that highlight the heritage and evolving roles of heavy horses, emphasizing their historical importance and strength. Diana hopes visitors will be captivated by the horses’ power and kindness, gaining a deeper appreciation for their contribution to agriculture and rural life. The Royal Bath & West Show runs from May 28 to 30, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate these remarkable animals.
