Manitoba 4-H: Celebrating 113 Years of Youth Development and the Boots ‘n Bits 90th Anniversary

The 4-H program, a vibrant youth organization across Canada, originated in Roland, Manitoba, where the first Boys and Girls Club meeting was held in 1913. Officially adopting the 4-H name in 1951, Manitoba has played a pivotal role in the program’s development, with numerous clubs established throughout the province. Over time, the program transitioned from government oversight to becoming a self-governing non-profit organization, continuing to thrive with over 130 active clubs today.

Locally, the Boissevain Boots ’n Bits 4-H Club is celebrating its 90th anniversary, offering youth aged 8 to 19 opportunities to learn horsemanship through riding lessons, clinics, and their signature musical ride performances. Emphasizing the 4-H motto, “Learn to Do by Doing,” the club fosters hands-on learning and teamwork, supported by dedicated volunteers. Upcoming events include the Manitoba Provincial 4-H Rally on May 9th and the Boissevain and Area 4-H Rally on June 5th, showcasing the diverse skills and projects of 4-H members.
