Living History Event at Cogges Manor Farm Features Edwardian Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride

The Friends of Cogges Museum recently organized a living history event featuring an Edwardian horse-drawn wagon ride through West Oxfordshire countryside to South Leigh. The trip, led by the museum’s shire horse Boxer and Friends’ chairman Bob Morris, included passengers in period costume and stops to admire local heritage sites like St James the Great Church. This outing was part of a series of summer demonstrations aimed at bringing rural history to life.

Cogges Manor Farm, with origins dating back to the 13th century, was purchased by Oxfordshire County Council in 1974 and converted into a museum showcasing Victorian rural life. After a temporary closure in 2009 due to funding cuts, it reopened in 2011 under a charitable trust. Today, it functions as an educational and recreational center where visitors can learn about farming, crafts, local history, and horticulture through workshops and interactive experiences.
