King Charles and Queen Camilla have developed a genuine passion for horse racing, with their involvement extending beyond ceremonial roles to actively following and supporting their horses. Their enthusiasm is reflected in the success of their colt Portcullis, sired by the legendary Frankel, which recently won at Newmarket’s Craven Meeting, a key event in the British flat racing calendar. This engagement continues the royal family’s longstanding tradition in the sport, previously championed by the late Queen, whose racing interests have now been passed jointly to the King and Queen Camilla.
Royal racing manager John Warren, who has a deep history with the royal family and horse racing, highlights the couple’s growing commitment, noting Camilla’s established ties to the sport and the King’s surprising but welcome enthusiasm. Queen Camilla has been a patron of the National Stud since 2018, and in 2024, both became joint patrons of The Jockey Club, further solidifying their prominent roles in British racing and ensuring the continuation of one of the monarchy’s most cherished pursuits.
