Gary Lineker has strongly criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s unconventional training methods following the Gunners’ surprising 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, which has intensified pressure on their Premier League title bid. Lineker described Arteta’s tactics—such as players balancing pens while moving the ball and watching AI-generated TikTok edits during training—as “cringeworthy” and distracting, suggesting that such unusual approaches draw unwanted attention and signal that the team is under pressure. He advised that title contenders should maintain calm and stick to traditional training routines, especially during critical moments in the season.
Arteta’s unique training style has included various eccentric exercises, like using light bulbs in team talks, having pickpockets steal players’ belongings, and playing motivational songs loudly during practice. Despite these creative methods, Arsenal’s recent poor results have raised doubts about their ability to secure their first Premier League title since 2004, especially with Manchester City closing the gap and having a game in hand. Lineker implied that if Arsenal were winning, these methods might be overlooked, but now they risk becoming a distraction that could undermine their title challenge.
