From Restaurant Owner to Horse Racing Success: The Journey of Mark Davis and Raging Torrent

San Diego-based electrical contractor and restaurant owner Mark Davis got involved in horse racing five years ago when a teenage girl named Gillian Guerra introduced him to the sport. Together, they purchased a portion of a horse and now own 13 racehorses, including Raging Torrent, who recently won the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

Davis is considering expanding into the breeding business by purchasing a farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Despite being allergic to horses, he is passionate about the sport and sees potential in breeding broodmares and training horses off the property.

Raging Torrent, purchased for $75,000, has already been offered $2 million and is being considered for races in Dubai. Davis, along with his team and Gillian, are excited about the horse’s future and are looking forward to potential opportunities on the track, including a possible return to the Breeders’ Cup.
