From Neglect to New Beginnings: Obi-Wan’s Journey to a Loving Home

In December 2025, Merle and Amy C. adopted Obi-Wan, a severely neglected 10-year-old Andalusian rescued by the Humane Society of North Texas from cruel conditions. After being found emaciated and isolated in a locked stall, Obi-Wan underwent nearly seven months of careful rehabilitation, including a monitored refeeding program, veterinary care, and gradual hoof trimming. Supported by ASPCA funding and expert trainers, Obi-Wan regained health and trust in humans before being made available for adoption.

Now thriving at Merle and Amy’s ranch alongside their three mares, Obi-Wan has gained 100 pounds and enjoys socializing and riding. The couple, first-time adopters impressed by the Humane Society’s dedication, say adopting Obi-Wan has been a dream come true and have opened their hearts to future adoptions. Obi-Wan’s transformation highlights the impact of rescue partnerships and the rewarding experience of giving a second chance to horses in need.
