The Farmers Union Horse Company hosted its Spring Hunter Derby on April 11 at the Heyser Field Riding Ring in Worcester Township, drawing about 50 riders. The event, planned since January, featured young members who contributed by building new jumps, highlighting a cycle of growth and giving back within the community. Local emergency services and township officials supported the inaugural event, which included various competition classes such as Cross Rail, 2’, and 2’6” Derbies, along with lead line and Hunter Under Saddle Stake classes.
Winners were recognized across multiple categories, with special awards for high point rounds going to riders like Elly Breeden and Alexis Ballance. The Farmers Union, established in 1834, continues to support Montgomery County’s equine and farming heritage through shows and community events. The next scheduled event is the 86th Annual Horse Show on June 6, with membership information available on their website and Facebook page.
