California resident Gary Kamins is suing Dutch horse dealer Alan Waldman after purchasing a $475,000 horse named Grodino (nicknamed “Dino”) that turned out to have serious health issues. Kamins sent his daughter Gabby and her trainer Charmaine Levinson to Europe in 2021 to select a competition horse, but the seller allowed only a brief medical exam and provided no veterinary records. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, Dino exhibited signs of pain and was diagnosed with a painful bone spur and a progressive spinal condition, preventing him from competing despite intensive veterinary care.
Kamins alleges Waldman knew about the horse’s medical problems before the sale but refused to refund the purchase price. Additionally, Kamins claims he lost years of training expenses paid to Levinson and that Waldman paid Levinson an undisclosed commission. Waldman Horses has not responded to requests for comment, and neither Waldman nor Levinson were immediately available for statements.
