Animal Rescues in Great Yarmouth: A Look at the Data and Heartwarming Stories

The article discusses the various animal rescue incidents that have occurred around Great Yarmouth since 2019, with at least 85 animals being saved by the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service. Deer were the most commonly rescued animals, followed by cats, dogs, horses, and cows.

One notable incident involved a deer getting stuck upside down between a house and an oil tank in Winterton, requiring over an hour for the fire crew to free the unharmed animal. The number of rescue incidents peaked at 21 in 2021, dropped to seven in 2023, and then rose again to 12 in 2024.

The RSPCA partnered with the fire crews in 24 cases to ensure the animals received proper care and attention. Some of the more unusual rescues included a swan saved from Haddiscoe Island and a horse stuck in a waterlogged ditch at Mautby Marsh Farm. Firefighters were also commended for rescuing 10 dogs, including puppies, from a fire on Northgate Street.
