Waldo County Riding and Driving Club Revived After Four Years, Bringing Generations Together Through Horse Shows

The Waldo County Riding and Driving Club, a Belfast-based horse show organization founded in 1954, was revived in 2024 after ceasing operations in 2020 due to declining interest. Volunteers, many with family ties to the original club, have worked to restore the overgrown property and repair facilities, growing membership to about 30 and expanding show categories. The club now hosts a variety of events, including English and Western riding, showmanship, games, and new ranch-style competitions, welcoming horses, mules, and even zebras, while keeping participation affordable to encourage community involvement.

The club serves as both a competitive venue and a social hub, preserving local equestrian heritage and fostering intergenerational connections among riders. Despite challenges like rising costs and waning popularity of horse driving, members remain committed to supporting newcomers and sustaining the club’s legacy. Scheduled shows run from June to September with free admission, emphasizing inclusivity and community spirit as they work to ensure the club’s long-term survival.
