Urgent Call to Save Rock Creek Park Horse Center from Abrupt Closure

The Rock Creek Park Horse Center, which offers horseback riding lessons, trail rides, and summer camps, is being closed by Guest Services, Inc. despite being only six years into a ten-year contract with the National Park Service. Horses are being sent to third-party facilities and the barn is set to close by March 31, with no public notice given.

The National Park Service is not taking action to require Guest Services to fulfill its contract, leading to concerns about the impact on the community. Public attention and pressure are needed to potentially save the Horse Center. Calls to Rock Creek Park Superintendent Brian Joyner and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton are encouraged to urge them to require Guest Services to continue operating the facility until the contract expires in 2028.

Immediate action is necessary to prevent the closure of the Rock Creek Park Horse Center, as once the horses are sent elsewhere, it may be difficult for the barn to continue or reconstitute operations. The community is urged to reach out and help save this important resource.
