Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. enters three horses in the $200,000 Ruffian Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct Racetrack on May 9, led by Eunomia, a 4-year-old daughter of Tiz the Law. Eunomia, recently acquired by Joseph’s stable, has shown consistent form with several placings but is still seeking her first graded stakes victory. Joseph and co-owner Mark Cornett have targeted the Doubledogdare Stakes and plan to aim for the Spinster Stakes later in the year. Joseph’s other entries include Dazzling Move, a 5-year-old mare by Not This Time who is coming off two unplaced starts this year, and Ultimate Authority, who recently joined Joseph’s stable and will wear blinkers for the first time in the race.
The Ruffian Stakes field also features Chad Summers’ Dry Powder, a Gun Runner filly with a mixed recent record including a ninth-place finish in the La Troienne Stakes (G1). Other notable contenders include Cassiar, Inefficiency, and Irish Maxima, all rising in class. Joseph is optimistic about his trio’s chances, particularly with Eunomia’s potential to improve and secure a graded stakes win.
