Southern Counties Heavy Horse Association Show Highlights Versatility of Working Horses at Brockenhurst

The Southern Counties Heavy Horse Association held its spring event at New Park, Brockenhurst, showcasing the versatility of heavy horses through demonstrations, showing classes, and a family dog show. The event featured horse logging, young handler and long rein competitions, horse-drawn vehicle displays, and a Percheron breed demonstration, alongside trade stands and refreshments. Hampshire Horse Watch and the Woodland Trust also participated with displays.

Association secretary Anne Dawson highlighted the event’s educational aim and noted the successful format change to include showing classes. Despite some morning rain, the day was well-received, with attendees enjoying the activities and sunny weather later on. The event concluded with a grand parade celebrating the heavy horse breeds.
