The Malinauskas Government in South Australia is investing a record $9.1 million through The Power of Her infrastructure and participation program to empower girls and women in sport. This funding, the largest in the program’s history, supports 41 local clubs and organizations by providing safe, accessible spaces, programs, and equipment to boost female participation across various sports including football (soccer), golf, surfing, tennis, netball, basketball, and Australian Rules football. Notably, over $6.1 million is allocated to 18 football clubs, reflecting the growing popularity of women’s football in the state. Key projects include new facilities and amenities at clubs such as Football SA in Mount Gambier and Renmark Olympic Soccer Club.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader $18 million commitment to sustain the legacy of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and promote gender equality in sport. Officials emphasize that The Power of Her program not only increases participation but also strengthens leadership pathways and community benefits. Football SA’s CEO highlighted the program’s success in leveraging additional funding and fostering partnerships to enhance opportunities for women and girls in football across South Australia.
