Princess Haya, former president of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and daughter of the King of Jordan, was honored with the FEI’s highest distinction, the Order of Merit, at the 2025 London International Horse Show. Serving as FEI president from 2006 to 2014 and now honorary president, she played a pivotal role in preserving equestrian sports in the Olympics by implementing key reforms. These included launching a solidarity program to develop the sport globally, introducing athlete representatives to technical committees, and establishing an annual sports forum.
Among her significant contributions was the overhaul of dressage management through a team led by Frank Kemperman and Olympian Robert Dover, addressing controversies from the 2008 Olympics. She also reformed eventing formats to reduce stress on horses. Princess Haya’s efforts were motivated by the need to improve the popularity and sustainability of equestrian disciplines, ensuring their continued Olympic presence. Additionally, she donated the FEI’s modern headquarters in Lausanne, named after her father, King Hussein.
