Makayla van Greuning has demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in the demanding equestrian sport of eventing, which combines dressage, show jumping, and cross-country phases. This year, she earned selection for the Gauteng A teams at the SA Youth Championships and Sanesa Nationals, winning three out of four eventing qualifiers and securing her place at the upcoming Sanesa Eventing Nationals. Central to her success is the strong bond with her horse, Mushka, who Makayla regards as her best friend and partner in competition.
Supported by her family and coaches, Makayla’s journey began with basic riding lessons and progressed to provincial victories under the guidance of trainer Bernice Clarke. Her mother, Sunette, highlights Makayla’s growth into a responsible and goal-driven young athlete through her commitment to training and horse care. As Makayla prepares for the challenging nationals in October, she seeks sponsorship to continue her training and competition efforts, carrying the hopes of her school, family, and community.
