The Long Road Home Project is a group of seven riders traveling from Bentonville to Little Rock, Arkansas, to raise awareness about the challenges faced by foster care families, children, and workers. They carry letters from those involved in the foster care system, aiming to provide a direct line of communication to Governor Sarah Sanders and lawmakers. The riders, many with personal connections to foster care, hope to highlight issues such as neglect, exploitation, and the need for better training for foster families to handle trauma experienced by children.
Along their journey, the group has received strong community support, with locals offering food, lodging, and encouragement. The project seeks not only to bring attention to systemic problems but also to honor and support those involved in foster care, reminding them they are valued and not alone. Organizer Andrew Martin encourages Arkansans to consider fostering or adopting, emphasizing the potential to change a child’s life. The riders plan to deliver these heartfelt messages at the state capitol on April 22.
