Little Red: A Beacon of Hope and Healing With Horses

Little Red, a Belgian Draft Horse, Friesian, Saddlebred gelding mix, was rescued from a kill pen in Texas where he was deemed unadoptable due to severe leg issues. Kristin Phelan, his adopter, was able to save him with the help of a generous donor. Red’s second chance at life has inspired Phelan to create opportunities for others to benefit from the therapeutic nature of horses.

Phelan will host a “Healing With Horses” event at her home ranch in Grass Valley, where the public can meet Red and his friends Spirit and Daisy. Phelan believes that horses can offer comfort and healing to those who are struggling emotionally. Red’s presence has brought joy back into Phelan’s life after the loss of her brother, and she feels that his story is meant to help others in need.

Phelan’s experience with rescuing Red has shed light on the issue of horses being sent to Mexico for culinary purposes. She hopes to raise awareness about this issue and provide a safe haven for horses in need. Through organizations and individuals who care, there is hope for these vulnerable animals. The Healing With Horses event will take place on January 11th and aims to bring the community together to support these efforts.
