Kentucky Derby Contender The Puma Gains New Co-Owners Including TCC Stables

Kentucky Derby contender The Puma has gained new co-owners as Michael and Jules Iavarone along with Ira Rothblut’s TCC Stables acquired an interest in the 3-year-old colt for undisclosed terms. Trained by Gustavo Delgado, who also trained 2023 Derby winner Mage, The Puma was purchased as a 2-year-old for $150,000 and previously owned by OGMA Investments, JR Ranch, and High Step Racing. Michael Iavarone expressed admiration for the Delgados’ consistent success in developing top-level horses and is honored to be part of The Puma’s ownership.

The Puma, an Essential Quality colt, has a strong racing record of 4 starts with 1 win, 2 seconds, and 1 third. He recently finished a close second in the Grade 1 Florida Derby and previously won the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) by 1 3/4 lengths. Currently, The Puma holds sixth place on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 106 qualifying points, positioning him as a serious contender for the upcoming race.
