Horseback riding in Central Park, a tradition dating back to the park’s opening in 1858, is making a comeback in 2026 after nearly two decades. The park features over six miles of scenic trails, including the historic Bridle Path, designed specifically for horseback riding. Miller’s Horse Company, in partnership with Manhattan Saddlery, will soon offer guided horseback rides, allowing visitors to experience the park’s tranquil, tree-lined paths with expert guidance.
Historically, horseback riding was a significant part of Central Park’s culture, with the Claremont Riding Academy operating from 1892 until 2007, providing affordable riding experiences. After the academy closed, horseback riding opportunities dwindled, with limited services offered by Riverdale Equestrian Center and other small companies. The 2026 reintroduction by Miller’s Horse Company marks a revival of this cherished activity, reconnecting riders with a longstanding park tradition.
