Holly’s Merry Moggies is a rescue charity in Ruddington dedicated to caring for ‘disabled, difficult and different’ cats, many of whom have complex medical needs or disabilities that often lead to them being overlooked. Founded by Holly Brockwell after the death of her own cat, the charity has rehomed hundreds of cats over five years and became officially registered last year. However, rising veterinary costs have rapidly depleted their £5,000 emergency fund, which was intended to cover a year’s expenses but ran out in just three months due to the high cost of treating cats with serious conditions like diabetes and infections.
The charity cares for cats like Jaffa Cake, a kitten with type 1 diabetes requiring daily insulin and glucose monitoring, and others with severe health issues such as eye loss or dental infections. Holly emphasizes that while they occasionally help healthy cats in dire situations, their primary focus is on those with special needs, often surrendered due to owners’ allergies, financial constraints, or other challenges. To sustain their work, Holly launched a GoFundMe campaign to replenish the emergency fund, which has successfully surpassed its £5,000 target, ensuring continued care for these vulnerable cats.
